Fruit Carving-Amazing Art of Carving Fruits
Food is an integral part of our lives, be it fruits or vegetables they are both equally important for a healthy lifestyle.Personally for me the presentation of food is equally important as the main dish itself. Many among you must have seen beautiful fruit carvings being the centre of attraction in various banquets, wedding receptions or family get-togethers. The art of carving foods is an Eastern custom that has been adopted by creative food preparers around the world.
Fruit Carving is a simple effort to carve the seasonal and tropical fruit available in your area and make it more attractive, delectable and easier to pick from. Inviting guests over for a Friday night or a formal dinner is not uncommon. What matters most is the effort you take to make it extra special and a warm experience for them to cherish. Meals or dinners will be many in the course of your life you will want to make it a meal they will remember for a life time.
As a homemaker you can welcome your invitees to a decoration where you have selected fruits with caution, seeded and used them accordingly so that their tastes do not clash. Vegetables on the other hand are first delicately carved, then cooked, and finally arranged for the final dish.
Presentation is a very crucial part of every dish; you do not have to be a master chef of five star rated hotels to create the same class effect. Decorating fresh, well chosen and bright colored fruits and vegetables is by no means a cumbersome task. If a novice person like me can master it then you sure can give it a swirl.
Tips to follow Before Carving

1. The most obvious rule,
as you are going to eat the diced fruits in the decoration you would want to
wash the fruits and vegetable cleanly and thoroughly.
2. Use a sharp stainless steel knife for carving.
3. Fruits are wholesome foods and you do not want to chop of all the nutrition
in your carving process.
4. Be creative the designs chosen should be decorative in a tasteful way. My sure bet is to go floral.
Melons, pineapples, and papayas can be carved in hallowed designs and baskets to become containers for fruit salads. Apples can be used for floral and leaf like presentations.
Some More Fruit Carving Pointers

Apples like potatoes and pears have an enzyme when reacted with oxygen causes discoloration. To avoid that soak it in lime juice before peeling it to slower this reaction.
Cantaloupes should be washed before carving. Make sure you pat it dry prior to use as the water may cause it to moisten and harm the final result.
Make sure you pick the best of fruits; they should be fresh and not overripe as they would not create the desired effect.
Some of the more elaborate carvings can take hours to get just right, but practice makes it go faster
Tools for Fruit Carving
For perfect precision and the right carving you will need concentration and a good sharp knife as you do not want any last minute goofups when you are preparing for the main event.
Paring knife
Peel Zester
Melon baller
'U' shaped garnishing tool
"V" formed cutter
Storing carved fruits
After carving, the fruits place them in ice cold water so that the design remains intact and stays fresh till the duration of the party. Make sure that you refrigerate the work of art else you will wilt them when contacted with the room temperature. Make sure you place a damp cloth if your refrigerator is stocked.

Awesome fruit carving. I have tried my hand at it too and visited a workshop. When you watch people doing it, it actually looks quiet easy, but creating something like the photos that are shown here takes true mastery and is pure art. I love it!
